Optimizing Images for SEO

When creating a blog post or publishing an article for your website, one of the questions you might have asked yourself is whether to utilize images or not. This dilemma can always be answered by a resounding yes, since a single image can spice up an article. In optimizing an image for your SEO campaign, here are the things that you should consider.

Choosing the Right Image

This does not mean that you can choose an image based on aesthetic value alone—or worse, a stock photo. You should choose the image that will be in line with the subject of your article. If you don’t want to opt for photos, other choices such as illustrations, graphs, and animated GIFs can also go great with an article.

Preparing for SEO

When optimizing your image for search engines, the first thing to do is to choose the right file name, which is the beginning of image SEO. You should also ensure that the image will load quickly by scaling it and reducing its file size as much as possible without sacrificing quality.

Next, you’ll want to place your image near your content to make sure that it will be relevant to your image, the same way it is the other way around. It also helps to add a caption with your image, but don’t place it just for the sake of image SEO as people usually read captions when scanning an article; make the caption brief yet meaningful.
